Folding a Long Sleeve Shirt in the Right Manner

Folding a Long Sleeve Shirt in the Right Manner

Folding up clothes properly is a challenge for most of us as we are not aware of the correct technique.  Especially when it comes to folding a long sleeve shirt we throw up our hands as the process seems complicated. However you’ll find the task of doubling up a long sleeve shirt a breeze if you follow the right steps.

Marie Kondo, a tidying specialist, introduced the KonMari techniques for folding different garments like sweaters and long-sleeve shirts. By following and practicing Marie Kondo’s recommended folding methods, you’ll achieve perfection in folding up long-sleeve shirts in no time.

Steps to Folding a Long-Sleeve Shirt

Before we walk you through the step-by-step procedure on how to correctly fold up a long-sleeve shirt, let us emphasize the crux of KonMari technique. The KonMari (the name is a portmanteau of [Kon0do and [Mari] e) method lays stress on judiciously integrating optimal use of space with systemization for perfectly folding long-sleeve shirts. Marie Kondo shot to fame and came into the limelight by helping organize and systematize uncluttered and messy homes.

The celebrated Time Magazine has featured Marie, and she has graced TV shows like ‘The Late Show’ hosted by Stephen Colbert. Now let us take you through the process of folding a long sleeve shirt the right way.

1st step-First and foremost look for a perfectly level or flat surface. Laying the long sleeve shirt on a completely even and smooth surface ensures there won’t be any wrinkles while folding. Before you start straighten out and smoothen the shirt.

2nd step-Now fold up the long sleeve shirt in such a way that one part of the garment completely overlaps the other. To do this, just overturn the shirt (i.e. the backside is facing you), and fold it carefully so that one half coves the other half.

3rd step-At this stage, fold both the sleeves in a triangular pattern. To do so, hold the sleeve firmly, and fold it gently in the direction of the shirt. While folding the sleeve ensure to keep it pressed so that the fold is in harmony with the armpit pleat. Now fold the sleeve once again but this time in the reverse or opposite direction, somewhat over the elbow.

The sleeves will be resting over the long sleeve shirt in a triangular fashion provided you’ve followed the above steps correctly.

4th step-The place where you’ll store your long sleeve shirt will determine the details of the 4th and final step. For instance if you want to store it inside a cupboard’s shelf, then simply fold the shirt into half. Folding the shirt into halves allows you to stack up to three shirts comfortably in a single rack or shelf.

If you’re looking to store over 3 long sleeve shirts then make sure you stack them in a larger shelf or else you’ll struggle to pull out the lower placed garments. On the other hand fold your shirt into half and then fold once more if you’re storing it in a drawer.
